Have you ever been so discouraged that you started questioning things you once believed with confidence? Have you ever reached a point where your faith felt tired, your hope felt weak, and your heart whispered, “Lord… are You really going to come through for me?”

If you’ve ever felt that way, you’re not alone. John the Baptist one of the greatest preachers in Scripture felt it too. (Matthew 11:2–6)

John wasn’t just any preacher. He was bold. He was fearless. He prepared the way for Jesus. He baptized crowds. He confronted kings. He declared, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” with absolute certainty.

But life hit him hard.

John found himself in prison — alone, forgotten, and facing death. The same man who once preached with fire… now sat in a dark cell with questions. The same man who boldly announced Jesus as the Messiah… now wondered if he had been wrong.

And in his discouragement, John sent a message to Jesus: “Are You the One… or should we expect someone else?”

Think about that. The greatest preacher of his time… The man who baptized Jesus… The man who saw heaven open… The man who heard God’s voice…

Now doubting. Now questioning. Now discouraged.

Have you ever been there? You believed God would heal you… but the symptoms got worse. You believed God would restore your marriage… but the distance grew deeper. You believed God would open a door… but every door seemed to close. You believed God would answer… but heaven felt silent.

And suddenly you’re asking, “Lord… are You really with me? Are You really going to do what You promised?”

Discouragement can make even the strongest believer question what they know. Discouragement can make you forget what God already showed you. Discouragement can make you doubt what God already spoke.

But here’s the beautiful part: Jesus didn’t rebuke John for doubting. He didn’t shame him. He didn’t say, “How dare you question Me?”

Instead, Jesus sent reassurance. He said, “Go tell John what you see — the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the Good News is preached.”

In other words: “John, I’m still the One. Even if your situation changed… My identity didn’t. Even if you’re discouraged… My power hasn’t stopped. Even if you’re hurting… My purpose is still unfolding.”

Jesus understood John’s discouragement — and He understands yours too.

If you’re discouraged today, hear this: You’re not weak. You’re not failing. You’re not losing your faith. You’re human — and Jesus meets you in your discouragement with compassion, not condemnation.

Just like He reassured John, He will reassure you. Just like He strengthened John, He will strengthen you. Just like He remained faithful to John, He will remain faithful to you.

Your discouragement is not the end of your story. It’s the place where Jesus speaks again.

“Even in discouragement, Jesus is still the One. My faith may feel tired, but God is still faithful. I will not give up — God will come through for me.”

Father, thank You for understanding my discouragement. Thank You for meeting me with compassion when my faith feels tired. Just like You reassured John, reassure my heart today. Remind me that You are still the One — still faithful, still powerful, still working. Strengthen me, lift me, and speak to me again. I trust You, even in the moments when I feel weak. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
